Introduction:

Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and
political hegemony over other nations.
The Age of Imperialism lasted from 1870 to 1914. By 1815 the world had known some four hundred years of continuous European imperialism. In a sense this was the outward expansion of European power over other continents. Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, French, British colonial empires had followed one another throughout these four centuries.Below is a video about the European imperialism in action and how it effected many countries.

Information on the Imperialism:
As stated in the video, The industrial revolution and a series of wars between the Netherlands, Germany, and many other countries caused Europe to be the dominant power. European imperialism was driven by a combination of factors, from a desire for territorial strength, economic opportunities, and political prestige, to the need for cheap supplies to fuel Europe's industrial revolutions.Through a Europeans eyes, it seemed to be the right thing to do at the moment. Europeans were too worried about ruling most, and eventually, possibly ruling all of them. The opinion of the subjugated countries, however, was most likely the opposite. Many nations benefited from imperialistic practices in that they provided an opportunity to modernize. Much of the infrastructure, educational facilities, and hospitals in these countries were built by the imperialist nations controlling them. Along with the positive changes came negative. People were repressed and their cultures were left behind. Because of this, the nationalist movement was sparked.
